Saudi Green Initiative: Tree Plantation move

Encouraging news aired few days back that, the Saudi govt pledged to plan a mega project for planting trees in the kingdom in the days ahead. The premier of Pakistan, Imran Khan has offered support and applauded the vision of converting the deserts into greenery.

Parallel to this move, the president of the United States has invited world leaders of forty countries to participate in an international conference about Climate to be held as virtual. The King of the Saudi kingdom is also part of that conference. It is also praiseworthy that, green middle east initiative is included in the planning. It is overwhelming to see Saudi Arabia will plant ten billion trees, while working with other Arab states to reach the figure of planting more forty billion trees in the region. If worked out and executed the plan in a short span of time; will change fate of the world community at large. Now the world has reached a point, where no other option is left, rather to go for the green path.

Climate change has posed several challenges to the planet, to overcome of these climate crises, world cooperation is stressed here. Positive impact of one country can contribute a lot to the global perspective. The experiences of Pakistan in planting trees is vast in this regard. Our billion tree Tsunami project which was launched in 2014 by the KPK Govt is worldly acknowledged. According to the Ministry of Climate Change-Pakistan the "Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Program, Phase 1" is a four year (2019-23) project by the Govt of Pakistan with the total cost of 125.1843 billion. (http://www.mocc.gov.pk/ProjectDetail/M2QzOWJmMjUtZTU3MC00NmFkLWE4YmMtZDFhMmRlOGU2NGRh) All these efforts and projects of plantation would definitely have positive impacts on human life, health and prosperity, if implemented at earlier.

We would like to see solide steps, measures taken by Asian, Arab or western states to control climate crises. Personally, i see climate change, global warming is the biggest threat facing the humanity. To raise public awareness, public campaign, siminars, workshops, conferences should be arranged by the concerned quarters.

Urbanization and Population

As per the data mentioned by Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination, Pakistan has the fifth largest population in the world, approximately 221 million people in the country, fourth largest in Asia and Second largest in the Muslim countries. This is really alarming for a developing country like Pakistan which lacks resources, strategic planning and a broad vision. Exponentially , our population is multiplying every year. Despite with meager resources ; it looks that we are heading towards more dependency on other nations, their financial institutions for more debts, interests and so on. Our agriculture sector is not equipped with to meet up with the nation's needs. Our farmers are less aware of the modern techniques of farming. They are not familiarized with the use of modern technologies. Thats why, we still import wheat, refined petroleum, Petroleum gas, Palm Oil, Raw Cotton, Oil seeds, fruits etc. In fact, our soil is rich in natural resources like, gas...
