Urbanization and Population

As per the data mentioned by Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination, Pakistan has the fifth largest population in the world, approximately 221 million people in the country, fourth largest in Asia and Second largest in the Muslim countries. This is really alarming for a developing country like Pakistan which lacks resources, strategic planning and a broad vision. Exponentially , our population is multiplying every year. Despite with meager resources ; it looks that we are heading towards more dependency on other nations, their financial institutions for more debts, interests and so on. Our agriculture sector is not equipped with to meet up with the nation's needs. Our farmers are less aware of the modern techniques of farming. They are not familiarized with the use of modern technologies. Thats why, we still import wheat, refined petroleum, Petroleum gas, Palm Oil, Raw Cotton, Oil seeds, fruits etc. In fact, our soil is rich in natural resources like, gas...

Climate Change: An International Conference in Egypt

Credited google images. The Twenty Seventh UN Conference on Climate Change is being held at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt from 6th November till 19th November 2022. It is heard that the meeting was one day extended unusual due to the serious discussion about funding to the poor and vulnerable countries hit by severe climate change, global warming. Almost two hundred countries participated in the conference. This is interesting to mention that, Law students from Vanuatu- South Pacific Island started a campaign to ask the International Court of Justice to clarify that Govts should protect their citizens from climate disasters. These Law students presented their idea before their local authorities then rushed to the UN Head Quarters and finally to the Climate Conference. In other terms the campaign objective is to protect humans ...

Heavy Rain and Floods in Pakistan

Pakistan is facing drastic changes due to climate severity in recent years, in spite that we do not contribute in carbon emission largely, compared to other developed nations. We are getting unbearable punishment for climate change every year in shape of fire on forests, floods, heatwave, increased temperature etc. Although we are responsible for deforestation, construction on river sides and our negligence as a whole.  Recent floods in this decade exposed our real administrative, governance structure as well as our social psyche. Since march 2022 we experienced intensive heat wave in the country. We also observed massive fire on forests at different locations. The heat wave in Asia largely affected the people in the beginning of summer. The wheat crop badly affected in the season. According to Global Climate Risk Index by German Watch reported that Pakistan, Haiti, Philippines are largely and continuously affected by climate change. Another report by Journal Communications Earth a...

Green Survival

As we know the survival of life on the green planet is now conditioned with, how we protect, consume our natural assets, preserve and conserve our biodiversity. Now is need of the time to expedite our speed of growing greenery. Otherwise we have left with no second option. Every resident of the earth has the obligation of planting a tree once a year if convenient so. I would suggests, every individual or elder of a house should plant a tree within the house premises or outside. Further it is appealed to the community elders, religious scholars, or preachers, who use load speakers frequently, should highlight the importance of plantation on priority basis.      Survival on green belt is immensely endangered by Climatic Changes in the last few decades. If the toughest challenges and environmental hazards are not perceived in real time; indeed it would be a great loss to the humanity. The teachings of our religion "Islam" says, Tree plantation is a (Sadqa Jaarai), The person...

Snowfall in Summer

Really, it is amazing that this hot summer suddenly saw snowfall at different places in Northern Areas of Pakistan. The reported image by Dawn newspaper published on June 24, shows clearly the snowfall at the upper parts of Kaghan Valley, dozens of shepherds stranded in Balakot Tehsil. It is further reported that local administration directed rescue workers to help out the stranded families along with their herds. Fifty years ago same snowfall in summer, in the month of June recorded. The reasons and causes are not known; however, few experts are of the opinion that Billion Tree Tsunami which was started in 2014 by KP Govt probably have improved the ecosystems of classified forests. On the other hand, an expert Andrej Flis 2022 (Long range/seasonal forecast), says that new abnormalities are occurring in atmosphere and oceans which creating different weather patterns in the second half of the year, specifically in the cold seasons later in the year. He further says that the weather chan...

New Glacier formed in Gilgit Baltistaan

This is to acknowledge SAMA TV Channel for reporting about the New Glacier formed in Gilgit Baltistaan in northern areas of Pakistan. Although we know that climate change is affecting our frozen areas but a new glacier is formed, for which the scientists are keen to carry out research about this new phenomenon. It is reported that this area has more than seven thousands Glaciers, but most of the glaciers are melting due to climate change or global warming. It is observed that some of the glaciers have been melted upto 4 kms around, but this new Glacier named as PARI GOOSH in the area of PASU in Gilgit Baltistaan is in expansion position. The scientists are deeply thinking about its formation and location. We have heard about the frozen lands like Antarctica and Siberian glaciers are also melting but this new occurrences may lead to new path in Climatic studies in the days ahead.   Written by: Painda Mand (PM)

Dry Climate: Forest on Fire

In the month of May 2022. we saw massive fire on Koh-e-Suleman, mountain located at the Sherani District, north west of Balochistan Province to the Southern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On the other hand the fire of Panan Village of Kotli Satyan  grabbed the wildland upto six kilometers and converted it into aches. Since yesterday, news are coming through social media that, some parts of Swat and Shangla forests caught on fire. Here the question arises in mind whether, the fire story is new phenomenon that happened yesterday or today? Is  the concerned authority have the capability to control or minimise the risks posed to the wild life? Surely this is not any new story rather we have heard about Amazon Forest Fire (2019), The Kincade Wildfire (2019), camp fire (2018), Greek Forest Fire (2007), Indonesian Forest Fire (1997) etc. We can say that all these happens by some human activity, dry weather, droughts, heat waves caused by weather change. As it is observed that wildfire ...

Go for Green Energy

Green Energy option has to be taken in serious consideration, if the world communities pledge to safeguard the green environment. Green energy is produced from various natural sources, like water, wind and solar. The positive impact of this type of energy is that, it does not harm environment. Green energy is produced from renewable energy technologies, like solar energy through solar panels, wind energy through turbines and water or hydropower through water flow .   BRUSSELS (AP ) — The European Union on Wednesday is unveiling sweeping new legislation to help meet its pledge to cut emissions of the gases that cause global warming by 55% over this decade, including a controversial plan to tax foreign companies for the pollution they cause. The proposals by the European Commission, which is the EU’s executive branch, will cover everything from tougher caps on car pollution to new national limits on gases from buildings. It will see a revamp of the bloc’s emissions trading scheme u...
